December 2017: Global Cambridge in New York – Why Literature Matters. I joined Professor Stephen Toope, Vice Chancellor of the University of Cambridge, and Professor Geoff Ward, Principal of Homerton College, Cambridge, to discuss the importance of literature, and literary criticism, in today’s world.

July 2017: Leverhulme Centre for the Future of Intelligence Annual Conference. My doctoral student, Jennifer Schaffer-Goddard, and I presented initial findings from our research into the influence of what AI researchers read on their scientific lives and work. A recording is available here.

May 2017: BBC Radio 3’s Free Thinking at the Hay Literature Festival. Sebastian Barry, Jake Arnold and Madeline Thien joined me to talk about historical fiction in the age of “alternative facts”.
